There is a story in The Sun today regarding the British National Party (BNP) and it’s latest recruitment tactic which opens a whole new low for even the BNP.

Tom Hunter (13) who stood for youth parliment was tracked down by the BNP and targeted with BNP propaganda material by addressing a letter directly to Tom and sent to his school containing BNP leaflets, this surely has to raise questions as to just what levels the British National Party are prepared to go to recruit members?

At just 13 Tom won’t be allowed to vote until the next General Election so the first question I would ask is simply why on earth did the BNP decide to target Tom in particular with this method, could it be that Tom is related to Lib Dem candidate Dominic Carman who is married to Tom’s cousin and also just happens to be standing against the BNP Leader Nick Griffin in the Barking seat at the 2010 General Election?

Are these really the actions of a ‘mainstream’ political party? lets just imagine that either the Labour Party or Conservative Party had taken a similar approach to marketing sending direct mail to students via their school, just how much would the BNP make of this, i’m sure knowing how they like to operate their various supporting websites and supporters would be on the attack all across the internet, speaking to The Sun Tom’s father had this to say

Dad Paul, 47, a lawyer from Newton Aycliffe, Co Durham, said: “Targeting anybody so young is despicable. “Everything the BNP stands for, I find disgusting.”

In The Sun article their is a quote attributed to a BNP Spokesman which I find both very interesting and telling of the methods employed by the British National Party

A BNP spokesman said Tom’s parents were “narrow-minded” for not liking the party, adding: “If he’s too young to be sent information, he’s too young to take part in a Youth Parliament.”

The first part of this quote is a rather standard (if not tame) version of the normal line of the BNP to people who don’t support the BNP, the second part of the quote also shows the mentality of the BNP as a whole, just because this young lad took an interest in politics and the Youth Parliment according to the BNP makes him a viable target for their underhand recruitment methods, is this really how we expect our political parties to go about recruitment?

This does however raise a more serious question, just how far are the BNP prepared to go to recruit teenagers? will we be seeing BNP Activists standing outside the school gates handing out their leaflets at lunch times?, do we really want to have our kids dragged into the right-wing agenda with such extreme recruitment methods?

It is fairly evident that the BNP are losing the battle to switch adults old enough to vote in the coming 2010 General Election so is this just a taster of what they are preparing in order to recruit new members and voters for the 2015 General Election, are they trying to line up the teenagers who will be 18 and legally able to vote in that election now?

The British National Party say they are campaigning on a ticket of Great British Moral Standards and History, is this the type of tactic Churchill would have used to recruit voters, I would say 100% NOT we seem to have a new era of dirty politics coming from the BNP, but are they really that new? lets take a look back at the tactics of one Adolf Hitler who used very similar tactics to recruit the Nazi Youth, it seems as every day unfolds the BNP reveal their methods are no different to those used all those years ago.

It could also be said that the BNP are just using this new tactic as a cheap publicity stunt to aid their ever reducing cash flow by getting stories like this out into the mainstream media in some daft believe that people will read the story and suddenly think the BNP are the best party for Britain, how naive can the BNP leaders really be to think that sending propaganda material to a 13 year old is really going to make people want to vote for the BNP.

It is said that no publicity is bad publicity but is that really the case when the BNP continually create such stories which in reality only turn away more of the voters they need now, as parents read stories like this they are going to be drawing the same conclusions as I have in that how long is it going to be before the BNP are standing outside schools handing out leaflets to 10/11/12/13 etc year olds? they already use the same tactic at sixth form colleges and universities and it obviously isn’t such a big step for the BNP to now step down and target even younger children.

This of course isn’t the first time the BNP have used methods to target kids, they developed a puppet called “Billy Brit” and made videos published both on the BNP website and YouTube which were directly targeted at 8 to 12 year olds, so it seems the BNP really does have no shame when it comes to exploitation of kids today.

And lets also not forget that the BNP also run “Youth Training” Camps where boys and girls as young as 12 are taught to use guns and knives, the youngsters are also brainwashed with lectures on the BNP’s racist beliefs and given talks on how to deal with “Marxist” teachers.

The BNP ran the first youth camp at its annual summer festival called Red, White and Blue. The party’s website boasts that children were taught how to make the Dutch arrows, which can be hurled 150 metres.

The BNP Youth Website has this to say

“The youth wing can only get bigger and better, with older members already being fast tracked into positions within the party.

“If a measure of our success is the young people involved did not want to go home at the end of the week, then we achieved it. Only the YBNP and big brother the BNP can secure a future for the indigenous children of this land.”

Do we really want our political parties to be teaching kids as young as 12 in the use of guns and knives? are these really the actions of a political party that has desires to become the Government in this country? can you really seriously consider voting for the BNP knowing that these are the types of recruitment and teaching methods they use?

If the BNP ever became a Government would we be seeing our schools turned into training camps teaching our kids in the use of firearms and knives, this may sound like an off the wall conjecture but the reality is they are already doing this within the BNP Youth Party, it wouldn’t be such a stretch of the imagination to see the BNP extending this into our schools as part of it’s education policy.
