From Council Bust
The Southend West BNP candidate Tony Gladwin has admitted to posting offensive comments on Facebook.
The comments were found and exposed in a Councilbust.com report on Sunday evening. Shortly after this, Mr Gladwin’s profile, which had been publicly available, had disappeared from public view.
Last night, Rochford and Southend East BNP candidate Geoff Strobridge said that there had been a series of attacks by hackers on BNP candidates’ Facebook profiles, and that the shutting down of all accounts has been ordered by BNP leader Nick Griffin.
He further explained that “Mr Gladwin’s case and similar attacks are being looked into as we speak. Naturally he is anxious about the situation, but says he has done nothing wrong.”
Conversely, Mr Gladwin today admitted that he was in fact the author of the comments.
Mr Gladwin posted comments about thalidomide victims, saying “You wouldn’t ask a thalidomide to change a lightbulb,” and later “they look like sea lions.”
Mr Gladwin also used his Facebook profile to boast of violent clashes with socialists, saying that he would be “stompin [sic] some pathetic red scumbag’s head in.”
He told the Echo: “It is distasteful humour I agree, but I’m 26 years old and known as a Jack-the-lad.
“You would hear worse down the local pub. It’s absolutely ridiculous people would criticise me for this.
“Why can’t they [thalidomide victims] have the mickey taken out of them like any normal person?”
Richard Boyd, the chief executive of Disability Essex, told the Echo: “My first reaction is one of true horror.
“There are certain groups of people in society who are innocent victims of appalling mistakes like thalidomide.
“These are the most unfortunate victims who live their lives paying for someone else’s mistakes and to make jokes about such conditions is quite appalling.”
